Beginning Sept. 15, 2020, the process for Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification will be automated electronically through a secure web service. Paper forms will no longer be accepted in Human Resource Services.
Previously, personnel in the hiring department were responsible for verifying the employee’s printed information and documentation. I-9 verification will now be automated as part of the new employee onboarding process, with the employee providing the necessary information electronically. NIU is also now recognized as an E-Verify employer. E-Verify is an internet-based system that compares information entered by an employer from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.
