Paperless I-9 verification process launches Sept. 15

Beginning Sept. 15, 2020, the process for Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification will be automated electronically through a secure web service. Paper forms will no longer be accepted in Human Resource Services.

Previously, personnel in the hiring department were responsible for verifying the employee’s printed information and documentation. I-9 verification will now be automated as part of the new employee onboarding process, with the employee providing the necessary information electronically. If you have any questions, please contact your employment coordinator.

NIU is also now recognized as an E-Verify employer. E-Verify is an internet-based system that compares information entered by an employer from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.
