“Great College to Work For” Survey: Every Voice Counts

Dear Faculty and Staff,

For the third consecutive year, NIU is participating in the annual survey for “Great Colleges to Work For,” one of the country’s largest and most-respected workplace recognition programs. On Monday, March 7, the survey will be distributed to all NIU employees, because every voice counts. You will receive an invitation with details about the program and how to access the survey directly via email from Great Colleges.

In 2021, NIU was recognized for excellence in the categories of shared governance; faculty experience; and diversity equity and belonging. Regardless of whether we are recognized in 2022, the data we receive will provide valuable information as we continue the process of creating the best workplace possible and becoming an employer of choice among institutions of higher education.

As we continue to contend with the pandemic and its many challenges to our operations and budget, we absolutely remain committed to supporting our Huskie community. Therefore, we view this survey as a great opportunity to assess the level of employee engagement and climate of our campus after two years of unforeseen challenges, and to demonstrate our willingness to listen to your feedback.

When you receive the invitation, please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey. You will be representing yourself, so your feedback is most invaluable. This is a chance to make your voice heard, and a high response rate helps ensure an accurate representation of our community. Supervisors should provide release time for employees to complete the survey. The deadline to complete the survey is April 1.

The survey is voluntary and completely confidential; NIU will not be able to trace results back to individuals. Your survey will be processed by ModernThink LLC, an independent management consulting firm focusing on workplace quality in higher education.

At the close of the program, we will receive topline reports that summarize the organizational competencies and relationships that most directly impact and influence our campus culture. Campus-wide data will be shared broadly, and collaboratively developed action plans will focus on specific needs at the department and division levels.

We encourage everyone’s participation and hope you will take this opportunity to share your honest feedback! Thank you, in advance, for your participation. Please contact institutionaleffectiveness@niu.edu, or visit www.GreatCollegesProgram.com, if you have any questions.

Thank you for your service to the NIU community.
