Dear Colleagues,
As we approach the end of another eventful and challenging fiscal year, I am proud of our accomplishments and grateful to you for your ongoing dedication to NIU. During challenging times, you were resilient and continued to show great care for our students and each other.
We remain committed to investing in you, our employees. Currently, escalating inflation and record-high gas prices present financial hardships for many of us, particularly those who earn the least. To ease some of that pain, the university is planning to give employees a one-time payment (OTP) to supplement their earnings. To this end, I will ask the Board of Trustees on Thursday, June 16 to approve a one-time payment to all eligible employees and graduate assistants. The proposal is a four-tiered distribution plan as follows:

Also at the June 16 meeting, the Board of Trustees will consider a proposed pay increase for non-represented employees that is based on a similar tiered approach. Graduate assistants who hold appointments as Graduate Assistants (Graduate Research, Graduate Teaching or Graduate Staff) will also be eligible for a 6% wage increment based on their FY22 wage for appointments in FY23.

Thank you for all that you do to make NIU an outstanding place to learn and work.
Together Forward,
Lisa C. Freeman
President
