Required Updated Equal Employment Opportunity Posters

On Friday, October 28, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) updated its website to include the new Know Your Rights poster, which replaces the previous “EEO is the Law” poster and “EEO is the Law” Supplement. The “Know Your Rights” poster summarizes the federal laws prohibiting job discrimination and explains how employees or applicants can file a complaint if they believe they have experienced discrimination.

NIU, as a federal contractor, must now use the “Know Your Rights” poster instead of the 2009 “EEO is the Law” poster and the 2015 “EEO is the Law” Supplement. We are still required to post the Pay Transparency Nondiscrimination Provision.

The “Know Your Rights” poster and the Pay Transparency Nondiscrimination Provision inform applicants and employees of federal contractors of their rights protected by OFCCP, and contractors must post them in a place where applicants and employees can access them, including employees working offsite. All applicants and employees must have a way to access the poster, either electronically or physically.  For more information on how contractors can meet posting requirements, refer to OFCCP’s Postings & Notice Requirements Guide.

The “Know Your Rights” poster includes these changes:

  • Notes that harassment is a prohibited form of discrimination.
  • Clarifies that sex discrimination includes discrimination based on pregnancy and related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
  • Explains protections under Executive Order 11246 related to asking about, disclosing, or discussing pay.
  • Eliminates the need for federal contractors to post the 2015 EEO is the Law Supplement.

What the Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity (AAEO) office needs you to do:

  1. Print the following updated posters:
  2. Post these posters on each division’s college/department’s bulletin boards or spaces where employees congregate and have easy accessibility to them to view.
  3. Remove the 2009 “EEO is the Law” poster and the 2015 “EEO is the Law” poster if one or both are present in your division’s college/department spaces.
  4. Download and complete AAEO’s Poster Tracking Spreadsheet and submit to AffirmativeAction@niu.edu by November 30, 2022. Ensure that every bulletin board and/or space that is in your respective division’s areas has been listed on the spreadsheet and that each poster field has a “Y” for “Yes” or “N” for “No” entry for each space. Enter “Y” if it has been posted, and “N” if it is not posted.
    • Please enter any comments as needed.

If there are any questions regarding this request, please email AffirmativeAction@niu.edu.
