Dear Supervisors,
Supporting our employees’ health and well-being remains a top priority. The purpose of this email is to provide you with updated guidance for helping employees who are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19, or who have tested positive for COVID-19. The steps below have been updated to reflect the change of the COVID-19 helpline to an online checklist.
If an employee is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, the supervisor must:
- Instruct the employee to self-quarantine, to not come to campus or any NIU facility, and to contact their health care provider.
- Tell the employee to complete the COVID-19 Screening Checklist.
- Communicate to the employee that they can work from home if their duties allow and if they are well enough to do so. Otherwise, they should use available leave benefits.
- Inform the employee that they can only return to campus after they have followed the guidance of their doctor and have been cleared by Human Resource Services.
- Notify Human Resource Services (HRS) at HRSCOVID@niu.edu and your own supervisor.
If an employee is diagnosed with COVID-19, the supervisor must:
- Instruct the employee to self-isolate and to not come to campus or any NIU facility.
If you have any questions, please contact HRSCOVID@niu.edu. Thank you for your service to the NIU community.
