Important: Action Required During Benefit Choice in May 2025
Human Resource Services records show that you are currently enrolled in the Health Alliance medical plan. As previously communicated, Health Alliance is closing its operations this year. Since our last announcement, Central Management Services (CMS) has decided to terminate its relationship with Health Alliance effective July 1, 2025.
What this means for you: You must either select a new health plan or opt out of the State of Illinois insurance plan during the Benefit Choice period in May 2025.
CMS has sent communications to all affected enrollees via both postal mail and email using the contact information on file in the State’s system. Their communication included the following key points:
- Your current coverage will remain in effect until June 30, 2025. There is nothing you need to do right now.
- During open enrollment you MUST log into MyBenefits to elect a new health plan or opt out of State of Illinois coverage. The annual Benefit Choice Open enrollment period will be held May 1, 2025 – June 2, 2025.
- If you have never logged into MyBenefits, please register so that you are prepared when open enrollment begins. There will be information available on this site to address member questions.
- Go to the Group Insurance Program page of the CMS website to learn how to register and navigate the MyBenefits website.
- Review the Frequently Asked Questions posted on the Health Plans page of the CMS website.
- Make sure to review your Benefit Choice materials that you will be mailed in April.
- If you have questions, make sure to attend either one of the in-person or virtual Benefit Choice Member Fairs. These fairs will take place in May. More details about dates and locations are forthcoming. Representatives for the available health plans will attend the in-person meetings to answer any questions or check the status of your current providers.
- NIU will be hosting a Benefit Choice Member Fair on May 9th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Regency Room of the Holmes Student Center.
